L'INTERVISTA
THE INTERVIEW

.

Usi Corni Tripli e Descant? O solo corno doppio?

(Vincenzo Bellini, solo dall'opera Capuleti e Montecchi - Carlo Durando)

IN ENGLISH

At what age did you start? And how was the passion for the horn born?

I started at 10 with M ° Giacomo Zoppi

Do you come from a family of musicians?

My father was the maestro of the town band.

What were the horn players that have influenced your career as a student and as a professional?

My generation grew up with the myth of Baumann and Tuckwell, with Baumann I studied after the conservatory, with him I learned how to play horn concerts, I want to mention also Guelfo Nalli, a great teaching addition to being an exceptional horn player, with him I understood the importance of the daily study.

The study method you would advise to young hornist?

More than a method I recommend to rely on good teachers, because if you get bad defects at first, then it's hard to fix them

How important is warm-up and daily technique?

I would say that it is crucial to be able to play quiet and free in the orchestra, I have experienced that it is very important what is done in the morning, the first approach of the day with the horn.

What would you recommend to improve breathing? Do you use accessories to improve breathing?

I have never used spirometers or various accessories, but the only thing I can say is that we always have to get a good amount of air, often in front of a long solo we immediately find that one or more breaths are needed, if we then think well and try to make good breathing, that is to fill the chest well, we realize that we come to the bottom without problems.

How important is it to have a good embochure?

I think a good embochure is 50% of the path, but you have to keep in mind that each of us has its own mouth shape, you can not impose an equal embochure for everyone.

What is the secret to maintaining the quality and fitness right over time?

Secrets do not know, I understand that the only method is the daily study, and I also believe that lifestyle is important too.

What advice do you give to prepare a good hearing?

I recommend not to neglect anything, to prepare concerts well as the orchestra steps, always preceded by a good phase of daily exercises, just like an athlete preparing a contest.

Which model of instrument  and which mouthpiece?

Currently playing a triple horn compensated E.Schmid's with Eb, the mouthpiece is my invention, Laskey cup, Olifant Paris board.

What was your first instrument?

I started with a Kalison in sib with compensating F, I also played Paxman and Alexander

Do you use Triple and Descant Horns? Or just double horn?

I made the choice several years ago to play the triple horn, with Schmid horns it's like having the weight of a double horn.

Which Favorite Composer?

As many as I like R.Strauss, the two horn concerts are still a reference to us hornists, besides all his symphonic poems I love the last 4 Lieder.

Thank you for answering our questions.

Thanks to you.
